Indonesia's BPS Says Foreign Tourist Arrivals Up 14.75% in April 2026

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia recorded an uptick in foreign arrivals by 14.75 percent in April 2-26, according to the country's statistics agency, Statistics Indonesia (BPS). The visits were dominated by tourists from Malaysia, Australia, China, and Singapore.

"In total, foreign arrivals in April 2026 amounted to 1.25 million, or up by 14.75 percent month-on-month. Growth is also recorded at 7.22 percent year-on-year," according to Deputy of Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Pudji Ismartini, during a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday, June 2, 2026.

From January to April 2026, Indonesia logged 4.68 million cumulated tourist arrivals, an increase of 8.24 percent compared to the same period the previous year.

The number of foreign tourist arrivals since early 2026 has fluctuated. In January, a total of 1.19 million visits were recorded, then dropped to 1.16 million in February, and decreased again to 1.09 million visits in March. But the figure increased to 1.25 million in April. 

Based on the tourists' passports, the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in April 2026 was dominated by Malaysian passport holders with 207.96 thousand visits, or about 16.65 percent of the overall visits.

Furthermore, Australian citizens made up 12.65 percent with 157.96 thousand visits, followed by China with 133.99 thousand visits (10.73 percent), and Singapore with 111.44 thousand visits (8.92 percent).

Foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in April 2026 spent an average of 10.38 nights, while based on the passport group, ASEAN passport holders had the shortest stay at average at 4.70 nights.

Meanwhile, African nationals had the longest average stay at 17.92 nights. Meanwhile, foreign nationals with the longest average stay were recorded for Yemeni tourists at 29.22 nights.
