Head of Information Bureau of the Defense Secretariat General of the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, stated that the calculation for the ship from Fincantieri shipyard is being carried out together with the Indonesian National Army (TNI).

"Currently, Kemhan along with TNI are still conducting comprehensive calculations and studies regarding the operational, maintenance, and modernization needs so that the ship can meet the standards and strategic needs of the Indonesian Navy," Rico said when confirmed on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

Kemhan is also preparing adjustments to the weapon systems and technical support. Rico mentioned that Indonesia will equip and customize the ship according to the operational needs of the Indonesian Navy. The adjustment includes support systems, spare part availability, and other technical configurations through applicable planning stages.

Regarding the terms or binding agreements in the donation, Rico emphasized that there are no specific terms outside of the inter-governmental donation mechanism. "There are no specific terms binding the use of the ship outside of the inter-governmental donation mechanism carried out in accordance with applicable rules and regulations," he said.

Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, Admiral Muhammad Ali, stated that the Italian-made aircraft carrier, Giuseppe Garibaldi, is targeted to arrive in Indonesia before the TNI anniversary on October 5, 2026. "For Garibaldi, it is still in process. Hopefully, it can arrive in Indonesia before the TNI anniversary," said Ali during a press conference in Jakarta, Thursday, February 12, 2026 as quoted from Antara.

The 180.2-meter-long aircraft carrier shares the same manufacturer with two of the Indonesian Navy's newest warships, namely KRI Brawijaya and KRI Prabu Siliwangi, both built by the Italian shipyard, Fincantieri.

Giuseppe Garibaldi is capable of reaching speeds of up to 30 knots or about 56 kilometers per hour. The aircraft carrier is equipped with jamming radar and a number of weapon systems, including the octuple launcher Mk.29 for Sea Sparrow/Selenia Aspide anti-aircraft missiles, twin Oto Melara 40L70 DARDO guns, triple-barreled 324 millimeter torpedo tubes, and surface-to-surface Otomat Mk 2 missiles.
