TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Manpower Minister Yassierli apologized to online motorcycle taxi drivers for paying the minimum Eid bonus (BHR). Yassierli expressed his apology directly in front of hundreds of online motorcycle taxi drivers during a panel discussion titled Quo Vadis Ojek Online, organized by the Social Security Administrator for Employment. "I apologize if the BHR that was given by me and the Deputy Minister yesterday was not optimal," said Yassierli at Plaza BP Jamsostek, Jakarta, on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
According to Yassierli, the government had to make the policy within a limited time frame, and the financial position of application vendors would become even more inflexible if the decision is delayed.
Yassierli revealed that academic colleagues have called him foolish for implementing the BHR policy. Because no country could be used as an example for implementing such a policy. "I said this is not about an example. This is the DNA of our nation, this is a form of care during religious holidays," explained Yassierli.
The BHR policy is outlined in the Circular Letter of the Manpower Minister, which obliges application service provider companies to give bonuses to driver partners as a form of concern for their welfare. The distribution of the BHR is in line with the mandate of President Prabowo Subianto, who had previously urged companies providing online transportation services or motorcycle taxi applications to provide holiday assistance to driver partners and couriers.
However, some drivers and couriers felt that the allocation of the BHR was unfair. This was because the application providers determined the amount of BHR based on each driver's productivity and performance levels.
The Chairperson of the Indonesian Transportation Workers' Union (SPAI), Lily Pujiati, had previously reported the application providers to the Ministry of Manpower's holiday allowance post for giving BHR of Rp50,000 to driver partners or online motorcycle taxi drivers. "In our opinion, this is discrimination and an insult to online motorcycle taxi drivers as well. They (the application providers) have violated the regulations that have been implemented in our country,' said Lily on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
