TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of workers crowded the area around the Parliament Complex, Central Jakarta, during the commemoration of May Day 2025. One of the alliances involved in the action, the Indonesian Labor Union Confederation (KPBI), paraded ogoh-ogoh, a statue in the form of a pig's head, and a statue of "Abang Sam" with the face of United States President Donald Trump.
The pig's head statue is red, while the Donald Trump statue is detailed with a belt adorned with the symbol of the US dollar. The pig's head statue has a banner demanding that parliament and the government pass the Asset Confiscation Bill.
Based on Tempo's observation, the masses began to move around 12:18 PM Western Indonesia Time while carrying the ogoh-ogoh and banners that read "kapitalisme, oligarki, militerisme musuh kelas pekerja" (capitalism, oligarchy, militarism are the enemies of the working class). They walked from Gelora Bung Karno towards the Parliament building.
"The pig's head is a symbol of terror carried out by the regime against journalists," said the orator from a command vehicle in front of the Parliament Complex of the DPR/MPR, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
Previously, Tempo experienced a series of terror in mid-March. One was a pig's head package to Tempo's office in Palmerah. Francisca Christy Rosana, also known as Cica, a political journalist at Tempo and the host of the Bocor Alus Politik podcast, received a mysterious package.
The package, wrapped in styrofoam, was deposited with the security by a courier from an online motorcycle taxi service wearing a Gojek helmet and riding a white Honda Beat motorcycle.
Cica only opened the package on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Inside, there was a pig's head with both ears cut off and still oozing blood.
The terror did not stop there. Three days after the pig's head package was sent, the Tempo editorial office received another package on Saturday, March 22, 2025. This time, it was six decapitated rats. With no recipient's identity, the security found the package in the office courtyard at around 8:00 AM Western Indonesia Time.
Associate Editor-in-Chief of Tempo, Bagja Hidayat, stated that this was the first time the editorial office had experienced a terror using live animals in its 54 years of existence. "Usually, the terror comes in the form of digital attacks, wiretapping, interceptions, and even bombs. This is the first time it involves living creatures that have been killed," he said.
