TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran has closed all diplomatic and indirect communication channels with the United States, as reported by the state-managed Teheran Times on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, as cited by The Independent.
This comes after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened that "entire civilization will die tonight" in the latest escalation of war threats.
The statement marks his most extreme public rhetoric yet against Iran. The message came less than 12 hours before he said the U.S. would launch attacks on Iran's infrastructure over Tehran's continued disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
However, The Wall Street Journal, citing Middle Eastern officials as reported by ET, reported that indirect negotiations through mediators for a ceasefire continue.
The move, described by officials as a calculated signal of anger, has made it difficult to reach an agreement before the 8 PM Washington time deadline set by Trump, although it has not entirely derailed the talks.
According to The Wall Street Journal, it is still unclear whether direct communication channels between Washington and Tehran will be restored before the specified deadline.
