TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung reiterated his commitment to enforcing the policy that mandates the use of public transportation for civil servants in the Jakarta Provincial Government.
Those who fail to comply will face penalties such as being denied parking, expelled from office premises, and marked absent.
Pramono emphasized that the regulation is being firmly applied, particularly through a ban on parking facilities for civil servants who continue to commute using private vehicles.
"I have instructed all citizens and relevant agencies to reject civil servants who come by private vehicle, whether car or motorcycle. If they still come in, they are not allowed to park, must be expelled, and considered absent from work," he said after inaugurating the Jagakarsa Rental Flats on Jalan Margasatwa Raya, South Jakarta, on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
He noted the policy has been effective in curbing non-compliance. One incident in South Jakarta involved a civil servant being denied entry for arriving in a private vehicle.
"We are grateful that the citizens and field officers are firm. Those who still bring private vehicles are refused entry," he added.
Based on Pramono’s data, around 4 percent of civil servants have yet to adhere to the Wednesday public transportation rule. The information was gathered by the Jakarta Transportation Agency, which monitors and compiles compliance reports from all relevant departments.
"Last week, the compliance rate reached 96 percent. I have not received the report for this week yet, but I have asked the Head of the Transportation Agency to gather data from all Regional Work Units (OPD)," Pramono said.
Despite the strict enforcement, exceptions are granted for individuals with special conditions.
"But for pregnant women, they are allowed to enter, as this is part of the rule that we also allow," he explained.
The policy was officially implemented on Wednesday, April 30. It applies to all Jakarta Provincial Government civil servants, including those working in mayoral offices, government departments, sub-districts, and district offices, who are now required to commute by public transport every Wednesday.
The mandate is outlined in the Governor of DKI Jakarta Instruction Number 6 of 2025, signed by Pramono on April 23. While the instruction enforces a strict approach, it does not include formal legal sanctions for non-compliance.
