Lewis Hall reveals decision to snub Man United was a 'no-brainer' as Newcastle star opens up on transfer saga - with Michael Carrick in the hunt for a new left-back

Newcastle and England defender Lewis Hall has revealed he didn't want to join Manchester United because of the vision presented to him by new Magpies boss Matthias Jaissle.

Hall, 22, was of strong interest to United in the summer as they searched for a left back, but the Red Devils opted to hold fire on any approach after Newcastle made it clear they didn't want to lose him.

But Hall wanted to stay on Tyneside too, and has detailed why he sees himself staying at the club for a number of years yet.

'No, honestly, it didn't (affect me),' he said of interest in his services. 'I guess whenever you're linked to another team, you know that you're doing something right. I guess it's just a credit to your own performances and how you are as a player, how you are as a person.

'I took that as a positive, but at the same time, I knew how much I love playing here and I knew that since the manager came in, I knew the ambitions and what we wanted to achieve.

'After not many conversations, not many training sessions, I knew that the manager was going to be really good for this club and I knew that as a team, bringing in new players and improving the squad was really important and as soon as we did that, it was a no-brainer really to sign.'

Hall has just put pen to paper on a new deal at Newcastle and earned a recall into the England squad after missing out on a spot at the World Cup.

Newcastle have had a mixed start to the season, but Hall scored in the 2-1 win over Hull at the weekend, which moved the Magpies to ninth in the Premier League table. 

'He's a top guy. He's been so good to me,' he said of new manager Jaissle. 'He gives me the licence to express myself as long as I do the defensive work and do the running that's required for this position, which is quite a lot of work.

'But I'm happy to do it as long as it benefits the team. He's been a positive for everyone who's come in so far.'

United, meanwhile, are keen on improving their defence next summer after buying in midfield this year.

They maintain an interest in Hall, but are believed to have assessed other options, including Brighton's Ferdi Kadioglu, Ian Maatsen of Aston Villa and Racing Santander's Jorge Salinas.
