TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chairperson of the National Economic Council (DEN), responded to the #KaburAjaDulu trend that has been widely discussed by Indonesian netizens.
Luhut urged the public not to be hasty in judging the performance of President Prabowo Subianto's administration.
"It's only been 100 days, I think there's no need to rush to say whether you're satisfied or not [with the government's performance]," said Luhut to the media after the Indonesia Economic Summit 2025 event held in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
The #KaburAjaDulu hashtag represents the disappointment of young people who see the high cost of education in Indonesia coupled with limited job opportunities. According to Luhut, the government has taken several steps to address youth unemployment.
For example, state-owned banknote printing company Peruri has employed around 300 young people.
"It's all because of President Prabowo's encouragement and the facilities provided, so if it hasn't happened yet, it's only been a hundred days," he said. "Let's see the progress by the beginning of next year, or by this year's end."
In recent weeks, social media has been buzzing with the #KaburAjaDulu hashtag, which includes calls to work abroad. This trend is believed to have stemmed from the disappointment of some Indonesian citizens with several government policies seen as indifferent to the fate of the people.
One of the issues that triggered the campaign's popularity is the massive budget efficiency policy by Prabowo.
This trend has been advocated by netizens as a form of protest against government policies regarding budget cuts in several important sectors, including education and health.
These budget cuts have led to public concerns about mass layoffs, prompting some Indonesians to seek job opportunities and a new life abroad.
