TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Trump administration has sparked controversy across multiple facets of public life, with tourism now among the affected sectors.

Over the past year, at least a dozen countries have issued travel advisories for the United States, pointing to heightened political tensions and the potential for confrontations with security authorities.

Ireland and Germany are the latest governments to caution their citizens about travel to the U.S., adding to a growing list of countries issuing similar warnings.

The advisories follow protests linked to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, including demonstrations in cities such as Minneapolis.

In 2025, travel to the U.S. reportedly saw a significant drop to 6% compared to the previous year, said the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). The decline is predominantly caused by a combination of factors, including increased visa fees and recent entry restrictions. Even the well-liked summer airline bookings from Europe to the U.S. are currently down to 14.2% in comparison to last year, according to Cirium.

Ultimately, the most recent travel advisories for the U.S. span vastly, from political protests, gender identification, national disasters, to clashes with immigration authorities.

On January 26, 2026, Germany updated its U.S. travel advisory, warning of demonstrations and clashes involving migration and security authorities in cities such as Minneapolis, and urging visitors to remain vigilant and avoid potentially violent crowds.

Citing Conde Nast Travel, the advisory from the German government also notes an elevated risk of politically motivated violence and reminds travelers to carry valid identification at all times, while reiterating earlier guidance that visas and entry waivers do not guarantee admission into the country.

Canada has also refreshed its travel guidance for the United States ahead of this year’s FIFA World Cup, while keeping the country at its lowest advisory level.

According to Travel + Leisure, Canada’s issued advisory recommends that visitors attending matches carry proof of tickets and accommodation for possible border checks, advises air travel when transiting between the U.S. and Mexico, and notes the risk of heightened criminal activity linked to drug trafficking in several border states, including Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas.

Besides Canada and Germany, here is the complete list of countries issuing travel advisories for the United States in recent years:

  1. Australia
  2. Belgium

  6. Finland
