TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has not yet confirmed the re-implementation of the electric vehicle (EV) purchase subsidy program. "Later, it is still being evaluated; specifically, we are preparing a national car," Airlangga said at the Smesco building in South Jakarta on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Previously, the government had planned to implement incentives for the purchase of electric motorcycles in June 2026. However, Airlangga announced that these incentives have been postponed until August. The Golkar Party politician stated that the delay was due to the government still evaluating the structure of the incentive scheme.
In May 2026, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa had confirmed that the government would roll out subsidies for electric vehicles in early June 2026. "The first subsidy will cover 100,000 units; if that is exhausted, we will provide more," he said during the APBN KiTa Press Conference at the Ministry of Finance office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. "Electric motorcycles are the same; we will provide for the first 100,000."
He stated that subsidies will be allocated for 200,000 units of electric vehicles during the initial phase. Electric cars and motorcycles will each receive an equal quota of 100,000 units. The subsidy for electric motorcycles is set at Rp5 million per unit, while the exact figure for electric cars remains under discussion.
Purbaya stated that the detailed guidelines for the implementation will be formally conveyed by the Ministry of Industry and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.
He mentioned that this policy is part of broader efforts to boost short-term economic growth, particularly looking toward the third quarter of 2026. The government, he said, aims to ensure that the entire economy continues to move forward, specifically by stimulating demand within the manufacturing sector.
