TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Navy’s (TNI AL) newest warship, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, has officially commenced its voyage to Indonesia after departing from Base Navale della Spezia, Italy, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The departure of the vessel, constructed in an Italian shipyard, represents a significant reinforcement of the navy's primary weaponry system (alutsista) within the maritime sector.

KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is under the command of Colonel (Navy) Kurniawan Koes Atmadja. Kurniawan stated that the journey toward the homeland is not merely a routine transit, but rather a vital step in strengthening the national maritime defense posture. The ship was built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.

"This journey toward the homeland is not just a voyage, but a significant step in strengthening the national maritime defense posture. KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is equipped with resilient personnel and weapon systems that have undergone a series of rigorous tests," Kurniawan said in a written statement quoted on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

The vessel's departure was overseen by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Italy and the Vatican, Junimart Girsang, as well as the Task Force Commander, First Admiral TNI Sumarji Bimoaji, along with the ship's command.

Previously, the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Ali, stated that the ship is expected to arrive in Indonesia by early April 2026. He explained that the sailing route will pass through Africa, circumnavigating the continent before entering Indonesian waters.

Ali explained that the ship, manufactured at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, is manned by Indonesian Navy personnel who had previously undergone specialized training in Italy. Before its departure, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 conducted a series of exercises and live-fire tests in Italian waters. "All tests and exercises were successfully carried out," Ali said during a press conference in North Jakarta on Thursday, as quoted by Antara.

Upon arrival in Indonesia, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is scheduled to join its sister fleets, such as KRI Brawijaya-320, in Command II. The presence of this ship is expected to bolster the combat capabilities of the Indonesian Navy in maintaining sovereignty and protecting national interests within Indonesian waters.
