TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Presidential Palace revealed plans for a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and United States President Donald Trump. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is discussing the two heads of state's agenda.
According to Teddy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, will convey the realization of the meeting. "(The meeting between Prabowo and Trump) is being discussed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and will be presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs," said Teddy at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Teddy mentioned that the meeting between Prabowo and Trump has been planned several times. "Certainly, there have been discussions and several meetings that have taken place, which will be decided later," said Teddy.
Teddy has not yet revealed when this meeting will take place. He has also not disclosed where the two heads of government will meet. It was previously reported that the meeting between Prabowo and Trump would discuss the trade import tariff deal between Indonesia and the United States.
Tariff Negotiations
The trade import tariff deal between Indonesia and the United States has been postponed from January to February 2026. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the negotiations are waiting for the scheduled meeting between President Prabowo and President Trump.
Airlangga stated that the finalization of the deal has been shifted to February 2026. Although technically the final tariff agreement plan has been completed, its signing is still pending a formal meeting between the heads of state.
The success of the meeting depends heavily on synchronizing the schedules and agendas of each country's leaders, which must be coordinated. "The schedules of the two leaders need to be taken into account. The two leaders also met yesterday in Davos," said Airlangga after the Central Inflation Control Team Meeting in Jakarta, quoted on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Although it has been postponed from the target date, Airlangga confirmed that there are no significant obstacles from the negotiations between the two countries. "It is only a matter of scheduling," he said.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that the negotiation of the U.S. import tariff policy, which was originally targeted to be completed by the end of January 2026, has been shifted to mid-February 2026. "Maybe in the second week of February," said Prasetyo at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, as quoted from Antara.
According to Prasetyo, the rescheduling is not due to any substantive issues in the negotiation. It's simply a matter of adjusting the time and coordinating the meeting point between the two countries. He assured us that there are no significant obstacles regarding the substance of the negotiations.
Trade negotiations began after the U.S. officially imposed a 32 percent tariff on imported goods from Indonesia in April. The Indonesian government then actively lobbied for a reduction in import tariffs on a number of commodities from the country.
