TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coach Joseph "Pep" Guardiola is rumored to be leaving Manchester City at the end of this season, despite still having one year remaining on his contract.
The Athletic reported on Tuesday, as cited by Antara, that the Spanish coach has decided to leave the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City's home, after ten seasons.
"Guardiola’s City contract had been due to run until June 2027, having last signed fresh terms in November 2024. Amid continued speculation in recent months the club’s position has consistently been that he has one more year on his deal and they have always been hopeful he would stay," wrote The Athletic.
However, the former Barcelona coach has indeed sparked speculation that he will take a break from his position as manager.
However, Pep also commented on his future before Manchester City's FA Cup final match against Chelsea last weekend.
"one year remaining on his contract," said Pep Guardiola.
Several news reports in England have reported that Pep's future has now reached its conclusion at Manchester City, having recently secured a total of 20 trophies, including the FA Cup as the latest.
Pep is one of the most successful managers in the City's history, with one of his most memorable achievements being the treble of Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup titles in the 2022/2023 season.
Reportedly, former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has been groomed as Pep Guardiola's successor.
Maresca is not new to Manchester City, having previously served as Pep Guardiola's assistant coach.
