TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Criminal Investigation Department of Indonesian National Police has confirmed that the legal process against Commissioner Kosmas Kaju Gae and Chief Brigadier Rohmat is ongoing.

The General Crime Directorate of the National Police is currently examining 12 witnesses in connection with the death of online motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan.

"Currently, the investigation is ongoing," said Brigadier General Djuhandani Rahardjo Puro, Director of the General Crime Directorate, at the National Police Headquarters on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Djuhandani explained that investigators plan to obtain statements from experts in criminal law and mass sociology. CCTV footage from multiple locations at the scene has also been retrieved.

"The collection of CCTV recordings was supervised by an external party, the National Police Commission (Kompolnas)," he added.

He noted that the investigation is moving slowly because the National Police is simultaneously assisting 15 regional police forces with cases related to riot demonstrations.

Affan Kurniawan was fatally run over by a tactical Brimob vehicle in the Pejompongan area of Central Jakarta on Thursday night, August 28, 2025, while trying to navigate through a crowd of demonstrators to deliver a food order.

The Professionalism and Security Division of the National Police is investigating alleged ethical violations by the officers in the vehicle. Rohmat was driving, with Kosmas, his superior, seated beside him.

Five other Brimob members were also in the vehicle as passengers: Brigadier Satu Danang, Brigadier Dua Mardin, Chief Brigadier Jana Edi, Yohanes David Bharaka, and Second Inspector M. Rohyani.

An ethics hearing was conducted on September 3 and 4, 2025, questioning both Kosmas and Rohmat. Kosmas was handed a dishonorable dismissal, while Rohmat received a seven-year demotion. Both have filed appeals against the ethics council’s decision.
