TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia is the first country to implement a mandatory 50 percent biodiesel blend, known as B50, nationwide. Prabowo made this statement while attending the launch event of B50 biodiesel at Cikampek Toll Road KM 57 Rest Area in Karawang, West Java.
The B50 program is known to require a 50 percent blend of palm oil-based biodiesel and diesel fuel. "With the launch of this program, Indonesia officially becomes the first country in the world to implement biodiesel B50," said Prabowo in Cikampek, Karawang, West Java, on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
The head of state stated that biodiesel B50 is not only a technological achievement but also proof that Indonesia can use its natural resources to benefit its people.
Prabowo believes that implementing B50 is a crucial step toward achieving the country's energy self-sufficiency. He stated that a nation's sustainability is determined by its ability to produce its own food, energy, and water.
The B50 implementation policy is said to be part of the government's agenda to reduce dependence on imported fuel, increase the value of domestic natural resources, and bolster Indonesia's economic and energy resilience.
The legal basis for the implementation of B50 was established through Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 4 of 2025 concerning Plant-Based Fuel Processing and Utilization, as well as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decision Number 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026 of 2026.
