TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that stability and prosperity are shared interests between Indonesia and Singapore and thus must be safeguarded through sustainable partnership in the Southeast Asian region.
"As close neighbors, Indonesia and Singapore have grown to become close partners. As we share the same region, stability and prosperity become our mutual interests," said President Prabowo during a joint press statement with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday.
The President explained that regional prosperity will never be achieved without a solid foundation of peace and stability. Therefore, he went on, continuous and uninterrupted efforts to maintain regional peace are necessary.
During the meeting, Prabowo also assured the Singaporean delegation of his personal and institutional commitment to maintaining the long-term sustainability of this bilateral relationship.
"Both Indonesia's and my own personal stance, I believe, have been proven over the past decades. Personally, my commitment and my belief are that Singapore and Indonesia must be good partners with good cooperation," Prabowo said.
The strong synergy between Indonesia and Singapore not only benefits people of both countries but is also projected to strengthen global economic growth and the stability of regional security across Southeast Asia.
The 2026 Leaders' Retreat between Indonesia and Singapore also represents a crucial opportunity as both countries prepare to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
