TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Monday afternoon to begin his two-day state visit to Indonesia.
Prabowo greeted Modi personally at the bottom of the boarding ramp at around 5:25 p.m. Jakarta time. The two leaders shook hands and walked together past the Guard of Honor before watching a dance performance by the None Kemayoran group.
President Prabowo then introduced several officials present at the airport, including Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago; Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono; Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi; Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya; and Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakravorty.
Following the welcoming ceremony, Prabowo escorted Modi to his state car. After another round of handshakes and a brief conversation, Modi took off from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, heading for his accommodation.
Previously, Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakravorty announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would stay in Indonesia for two nights, with scheduled visits to Jakarta and Yogyakarta.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit this time will focus on strengthening several pillars of cooperation," Chakravorty said at a press conference at the Indian Embassy in Jakarta on Friday, July 3.
The aforementioned cooperation includes defense and security, trade and investment, food security, energy security, downstreaming, critical mineral development, and capacity building in health and education.
According to Chakravorty, India and Indonesia already have a comprehensive strategic partnership built on long-standing relations and strong civilizational ties. That said, the challenge ahead is ensuring the relevancy of these partnerships and delivering tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
According to the agenda, on Tuesday, July 7, President Prabowo and Modi will hold a bilateral meeting followed by a state banquet. Afterward, Modi is scheduled to deliver a speech and in the evening attend a meeting with the Indian community in Indonesia.
The next day, Modi will continue his visit to Yogyakarta before leaving for Australia.
