TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from the top official of the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, Embraer, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, February 2, 2026. Garuda Indonesia's President Director, Glenny Kairupan, also participated in the meeting.
According to Glenny, the meeting discussed the development of the global aviation industry, especially in regard to Indonesia's aviation ecosystem and the development of aircraft technology. The discussion was conducted in a relaxed atmosphere with a focus on the dynamics of national and global aviation.
"We discussed Garuda Indonesia as well as the rapid advancement of aircraft technology. The President wants Indonesia to be involved in the development of advanced technologies," said Glenny, as quoted from a written statement on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
But the meeting didn't discuss any plan to purchase aircraft, said Glenny, noting that the discussions focused solely on technological coordination.
Prabowo also mandated Indonesia, including its air carrier, must work to follow and adapt to global aviation technology advancements, Glenny added.
The meeting saw Prabowo with the CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation Arjan Meijer, CEO of Garuda Indonesia Glenny H. Kairupan, CEO of PT Pindad Sigit Puji Santosa, and Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi.
Embraer is a Brazil-based company that is often considered the world's third-largest aircraft manufacturer after Boeing and Airbus. Embraer produces various types of aircraft, from commercial to combat aircraft.
In a written statement, the Presidential Secretariat stated that this meeting is part of the government's commitment to encourage the modernization and transformation of the national aviation sector, as well as to strengthen Indonesia's position in the global aviation industry chain.
The meeting with Embraer's top executive took place at the Merdeka Palace in the afternoon. Earlier on the same day, President Prabowo led the Central and Regional Government Coordination Meeting for 2026 in Sentul, Bogor Regency, West Java.
