TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto expressed his desire to visit Belarus. The plan was conveyed when he received a state visit from Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Jakarta on Thursday, June 2, 2026.
During the meeting, Prabowo expressed his appreciation for Lukashenko's visit and his delegation to Indonesia. He also conveyed his intention to return the visit to Belarus. "Certainly, I will also reciprocate this visit," said the Gerindra Party chair in a joint press statement at the Merdeka Palace.
Prabowo believed that the momentum of his meeting with Lukashenko would further strengthen the Indonesia-Belarus partnership. He hoped that this cooperation would open up broader opportunities with tangible benefits for both countries.
Meanwhile, Lukashenko expressed his satisfaction after meeting Prabowo. "After this visit, trade between the two countries will continue to flourish. However, the most important thing is not just trade, but also technology transfer," he said.
He mentioned that although Belarus is not as large as Indonesia, it has much to offer that Indonesia needs. "Not only the products we produce, but also the technology and experience that we can share," said Lukashenko.
Lukashenko stated that Prabowo had set various ambitious targets for Indonesia's development. "Belarus is ready to be a partner in realizing them," said the man who has served as President of Belarus since 1994.
Lukashenko arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. He was welcomed by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta. That evening, Lukashenko stayed overnight at the State Palace in Jakarta.
Foreign Minister Sugiono mentioned that staying at the Presidential Palace complex was Lukashenko's personal wish. He said the Indonesian government fulfilled this request as a gesture of respect toward the visiting president.
Other heads of state, according to Sugiono, usually prefer to stay in hotels. "Usually, they prefer to stay at a hotel. But this time, he wanted to stay at the Palace," said Sugiono.
According to Sugiono, Lukashenko was initially scheduled to stay at Wisma Negara within the Presidential Palace complex. However, President Prabowo Subianto requested that accommodation be arranged at the State Palace for the Belarusian president instead. "Originally at Wisma Negara, but the President considered the State Palace more representative," said the Gerindra Party politician.
He mentioned that Lukashenko's visit was a return visit following Prabowo's visit to Belarus on July 15, 2025. "This visit is the second visit by President Lukashenko after his first visit to Indonesia in 2013," he said.
