TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto says Indonesia will surprise the world, as it's no longer a "sleeping giant" with untapped potential.
Indonesia is beginning to wake up, the president said, during the inauguration of PT VKTR Sakti Industries' electric commercial vehicle assembly plant in Magelang, Central Java.
"We will surprise the whole world next year. Indonesia is rising up. This giant is waking up. We will not be anymore the sleeping giant. We are rising," says Prabowo on Thursday, quoted from the broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat YouTube channel.
Prabowo is confident that Indonesia has numerous strong potentials, from natural resources and technological capabilities to the government's efforts to bolster independence across various sectors.
For Prabowo, Indonesia could withstand various global challenges thanks to its abundant resources.
"We have great power, we are diligent. We will be independent, we will be strong, we will stand on our own two feet," says Prabowo.
The former Minister of Defense believes Indonesia has a bright future, while revisiting the 'Dark Indonesia' (Indonesia Gelap) protest movement. According to him, the Prabowo believes that the mindset and hearts of the group propagating the narrative of dissatisfaction with the state of Indonesia is "not good enough."
"Those who say [that Indonesia] is not bright, those who say Indonesia is dark, perhaps their eyes are not good enough. Their eyes and their hearts. Well, what can we do? If someone's heart is not sincere, their vision is blurred, well, then Indonesia is dark," said Prabowo.
