TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirmed that there will be no new procurement of electric vehicles for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG). The State Treasurer admitted to being caught off guard because the budget for electric motorcycle procurement was executed last year.
He suspected the 2025 procurement occurred due to a miscommunication. "There is none this year. Perhaps there was a miscommunication last year, from my subordinates to me," he said at the Finance Ministry office in Jakarta on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
Based on his recollection, Purbaya had previously rejected the procurement request. However, it turned out that a portion of the funding request slipped through. He also suspected some of these requests had been submitted before he took office as the Minister of Finance.
The previous purchase of electric motorcycles for the MBG program became a subject of intense public debate following a viral video on social media showing electric vehicles bearing the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) logo. The video sparked speculation that the number of purchased vehicles had reached 70,000 units.
The head of BGN, Dadan Hindayana, stated that the procurement of electric motorcycles was a part of the 2025 budget planning and not a new program. In total, the procurement reached 21,801 units out of an initial plan for 25,644 units. Dadan also emphasized that claims of the number reaching 70,000 units were incorrect.
"The procurement of electric motorcycles was planned in the 2025 budget as operational support for the MBG Program, especially to assist the mobility of SPPG heads," Dadan said as quoted from Antara, Thursday, April 9, 2026.
According to Dadan, the budget for electric vehicles for the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) is included in the Year-End Budgetary Account (RPATA) in accordance with the Finance Ministerial Regulation (PMK). By the end of 2025, he said, the Commitment Maker Officer (PPK) had submitted the Payment Order Letter (SPM) to ensure the budget was recorded in the RPATA.
This mechanism follows PMK 84 of 2025. Payments are made in two stages: the first installment upon 60% completion and the final payment once 100 percent of the units are delivered. Dadan added that by the end of the grace period on March 20, 2026, the provider had only managed to complete 85.01%, or 21,801 units of the contracted 25,644 units.
