TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Director of Drug Investigation of the Riau Police, Senior Commissioner Putu Yudha Prawira, said that they were still continuing the investigation to uncover the crystal meth smuggling network of 90 kilograms brought into Indonesian territory by suspects with the initials 'JM' (35 years old) and 'IF' (21 years old).
"We will not stop and will continue to hunt down other perpetrators involved in this network, including the two masterminds of the crime of distributing goods that destroy souls and minds," said Putu Yudha, Saturday, February 15, 2025 as reported by Antara.
According to him, JM and IF, residents of Bandar Laksamana District, Bengkalis, are suspected of being couriers tasked with picking up drugs from Malaysia and smuggling them into Indonesia via sea.
Previously, said Putu, a team from the Riau Police together with the Bengkalis Police Drug Investigation Unit and Bengkalis Customs hunted down methamphetamine dealers operating in the waters of Sepahat Beach, Bandar Laksamana District, Bengkalis Regency.
"The intelligence is the Elang Malaka Team in collaboration with Bengkalis Customs conducting intensive investigations for the past two weeks," he said.
The Riau Police Team worked intensively through the waters of Bengkalis looking for clues and gathering information to uncover the international network of distributors of the illicit goods.
The team found a speedboat on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 22:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) crossing the waters of Sepahat. Because it was suspicious, the team tried to stop the speed of the motorboat, and JM and IF were arrested along with evidence of 90 kg of crystal meth and 10 packages of ecstasy pills.
The two perpetrators and the evidence are now being held at the Bengkalis Police.
