TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian National Team player Rizky Ridho has joined the newly relaunched FIFPRO Global Player Council, alongside football players from around the world, including Wataru Endo.
The FIFPRO Global Player Council consists of 37 football players from various continents, serving as a collective platform for players to participate in global football decision-making.
Jackson Irvine, an Australian midfielder and council member, expressed that joining the FIFPRO Global Player Council provides an opportunity to shape the game for the better and ensure that players' voices are heard. He stated this during an official FIFPRO event in Jakarta on Thursday.
FIFPRO explains that the presence of players from across nations and competitions, both male and female, will strengthen the representation of issues directly affecting their careers. This includes international calendars, work standards, player data, and social media abuse as primary concerns of the council.
Several prominent figures have joined, including 2022 World Cup champion Alexis Mac Allister and five-time Women's Champions League winner Lucy Bronze. Other notable additions include national team captains Chris Wood (New Zealand), Wataru Endo (Japan), and Caroline Weir (Scotland).
Rizky Ridho is the sole Indonesian representative among these members. His presence is crucial as each council member maintains a close connection with players' associations in their respective countries. Thus, the global-level voice remains rooted in domestic conditions.
"Sharing experiences with people from around the world is invaluable in advancing football. Being part of the Global Player Council has also provided me with many valuable insights in my career journey, so rejoining was an easy decision," Lucy Bronze said.
Meanwhile, FIFPRO Secretary General Alex Phillips emphasized that GPC members are leaders both on and off the field.
"They have shown leadership, and we are proud to have them on the council. Football players have the power to shape their industry for the better. We are grateful for their time and effort in defending their colleagues' rights with passion and courage," he stated.
First introduced in 2019, the GPC is committed to strengthening the collective capacity of soccer players to advocate for their interests at the international level.
