1. ADB and FTSE Russell Confirm Indonesia's Economic Resilience, Govt Claims

The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs claims that two back-to-back international acknowledgments have affirmed the resilience of Indonesia's economy amid heightening global geopolitical tensions and the impact of the Middle East conflict on the world stage. The two international institutions are the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the global index provider, FTSE Russell.

Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Haryo Limanseto, stated that the ADB’s Asian Development Outlook for April 2026 projects Indonesia's economy to grow at a stable 5.2 percent in 2026 and 2027, up from the 5.1 percent growth recorded in 2025.

Additionally, on April 7, 2026, FTSE Russell decided to maintain Indonesia's status as a Secondary Emerging Market. "The report stated that Indonesia is not being considered for inclusion in any downgrade watchlist," he said in an official statement on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

2. Lotte Chemical Indonesia Urges Import Ease Amid Raw Material Crisis

South-Korean-based petrochemical company PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia (LCI) is grappling with pressure on its raw material supply as global logistics chains buckle under the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Cho Jin-Woo, LCI’s Director of Management Support, stated that the rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz are directly impacting the availability of naphtha and LPG, the two primary pillars of the petrochemical industry.

Cho mentioned that the company is currently rerouting its raw material supply chains through alternative paths to maintain production continuity. Despite these constraints, LCI continues to prioritize its product distribution to meet domestic market needs.

"Our priority is to maintain the supply for the domestic industry. We are optimizing all resources to minimize the impact of these disruptions on our customers," Cho said, as quoted in a press release on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

The investigation into alleged sexual harassment within the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (FH UI), continues. The case, allegedly involving sixteen perpetrators, has garnered attention from the FH UI academic community, the UI Student Executive Board (BEM UI), and even members of the House of Representatives.

The case came to light when sixteen FH UI students publicly apologized in a chat group of the 2023 FH UI students on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

The Chairperson of the FH UI BEM, Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, stated that the apology was made suddenly and without any clear context.
