Berton Suar Pelita Panjaitan, Acting Head of the BNPB’s Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, stated that available water sources are receding. 2. Fact Check: Photos Claim to Show Israeli Soldiers Captured by Iran
Several Facebook posts claiming that Iran captured dozens of Israeli soldiers have been shared by account 1 [archived], account 2, and account 3 since August 3, 2026. The content features a photo collage of Israeli soldiers allegedly held captive by Iranian troops at a dock. These photos circulated amidst the armed conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran in the Gulf region.
The photos show Israeli soldiers wearing camouflage uniforms with the Israeli flag on their sleeves. They are bound with ropes in various positions, ranging from crouching to lying face-down. Iranian soldiers appear to be guarding the captives while armed; one soldier is even seen striking a captive with a wooden beam. 3. Fact Check: Did Mount Ibu's Eruption Trigger the NTT Earthquake?
Several posts on Facebook [archived] and TikTok link an earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to an eruption of Mount Ibu in West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, Indonesia.
Mount Ibu is alleged to have spewed a volcanic ash column five kilometers high, followed by an earthquake in NTT on August 15, 2026. "Mount Ibu erupted, sending an ash column 5 km high over Halmahera. Shortly after, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook Flores, triggering a tsunami warning," the narrative in the content states.
