TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pixar could not have fans more excited for Toy Story 5, with the film’s soundtrack to feature an original song by Taylor Swift. Titled “I Knew It, I Knew You,” the singer-songwriter will drop the piece this Friday, June 5—two weeks ahead of the movie’s theater release on June 19.
“You knew it! My new original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” for Disney and @pixar’s @toystory 5 will be yours on June 5th,” Swift wrote in her Instagram caption.
She also connected the project to a cherished childhood memory, adding, “I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie.”
Swift revealed that she wrote the song shortly after returning from the screening of “Toy Story 5.” According to Variety, the 36-year-old star worked on the track alongside longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, the same creative partner behind her 2024 album “The Tortured Poets Department.”
As if the announcement was not exciting enough, fans can also look forward to “I Knew It, I Knew You,” marking Swift’s return to her country music roots. In a statement, Disney said the creative direction was inspired by the beloved cowgirl Jessie, who is stepping into the lead role in the fifth installment.
The official confirmation puts an end to weeks of speculation, after billboards featuring the initials “TS” surrounded by 13 cartoon clouds appeared across the United States in April.
“I Knew It, I Knew You” will be available in three CD versions: the standard single, an acoustic rendition, and a piano version, giving fans more ways to enjoy the track.
Notably, writing music for films is nothing new for Swift. As Euronews noted, the “Love Story” singer previously penned “Safe & Sound” for The Hunger Games, “Sweeter Than Fiction” for One Chance, “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” for Fifty Shades Darker, “Beautiful Ghosts” for Cats, and “Carolina” for Where the Crawdads Sing.
