TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S. President Donald Trump extends a message of blessings to Muslims celebrating Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri this year.
“The First Lady and I send our best wishes to every American celebrating Eid al-Fitr,” Donald Trump said in a White House statement on Wednesday, March 18, as quoted from Antara.
He extended warm greetings to the Muslim community celebrating Eid al-Fitr and hoped they would receive many blessings on this day of victory.
Trump said that Eid al-Fitr, which he also referred to as the Festival of Breaking the Fast, has united the Muslim community and the broader public in honoring their spiritual observances at the conclusion of Ramadan.
Eid al-Fitr, he said, also serves as a reminder of America’s fundamental principle of religious freedom, which the U.S. government champions.
“[This holiday] also serves as a reminder of the foundational American principle of religious liberty, which my Administration is fighting for every day," he said.
Several countries celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Friday, March 20, including some in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the Indonesian government announced on Thursday that Eid al-Fitr falls on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
“Based on astronomical calculations and the absence of a visible crescent moon, it has been agreed that 1 Shawwal 1447 Hijri falls on Saturday, March 21, 2026,” said Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar during a press conference on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the General Chair of the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, had previously urged on Monday that differences in Eid determination must be addressed with mutual respect.
“In essence, let us use this Eid al-Fitr, whether in our similarities or differences, as a momentum to explore and implement sources of religious enlightenment for our lives—whether it be personal, familial, community-wise, nation-wise, or even global," he said.
