TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Donald Trump has issued an executive order for the Department of Justice to review every artificial intelligence (AI) model before it is released to the public. This policy is suspected of slowing the launch of several new AI models by several global technology companies.
Under Trump's policy, the review and evaluation scheme will be in effect for up to 90 days after the AI model is produced. Trump signed the policy in the presence of several technology company executives in Silicon Valley. However, reports from Android Authority suggest that the decision for this policy came directly from the President of the U.S.
According to the report, Trump's new AI policy was issued after a White House meeting on AI regulation. In addition to requesting the review of AI models, the executive order also directs the Department of Justice to treat AI-assisted hacking and unauthorized access as high-priority crimes.
"Criminal laws against anyone who utilizes AI to illegally access or damage a computer without authorization, or who utilizes AI while engaged in such illegal access to further any other crime," the directive reads.
On June 2, 2026, the White House website stated that the government should use AI technology to enhance collaboration with industry and ensure this technology is safe. "We will continue to lead an America First cybersecurity effort that enhances both our national security and our global AI dominance," said Trump there.
