TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who arrived in Jakarta on Tuesday night, June 2, for an official visit scheduled for Wednesday.
In a statement posted on the official social media account @Menlu_RI on Wednesday, Sugiono described Indonesia and Türkiye as two nations bound by solidarity and that consistently stand by each other.
“Indonesia greatly appreciates Türkiye’s steadfast support and solidarity in defending our shared principles,” the minister said.
The same post also featured two photos showing Sugiono personally receiving Fidan upon arrival, with the two foreign ministers seen shaking hands after Fidan disembarked from the Turkish government aircraft.
Hakan Fidan’s official visit to Indonesia on Wednesday is expected to focus on expanding bilateral cooperation, strengthening trade and defense ties, and addressing regional as well as global security challenges.
According to a source from Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry, as cited by Anadolu on Tuesday, Fidan will discuss steps to further enhance cooperation across various sectors in line with the political will demonstrated by both countries’ leaders.
He is expected to underline the importance of deepening collaboration in infrastructure, energy, transportation, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, high technology, and the halal food industry, with the goal of increasing bilateral trade volume to US$10 billion (around Rp178.3 trillion).
He is also expected to review ongoing defense industry projects between the two countries and assess potential new areas of cooperation.
On Gaza, Fidan will reaffirm that Türkiye and Indonesia remain in close dialogue regarding developments in Palestine and will continue joint efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.
During his visit to Jakarta, Fidan is also scheduled to discuss a range of regional and global issues, including developments involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, Syria, the Russia–Ukraine war, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya, as well as broader security dynamics in the Asia-Pacific region.
Fidan last visited Indonesia in February 2025 as part of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s official visit. The two foreign ministers also met in Ankara in January during the first-ever Indonesia–Türkiye 2+2 Foreign and Defense Ministers’ Meeting.
