TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that the adjustment of aviation fuel (avtur) prices is being managed through a government-subsidized value-added tax (VAT) of 11 percent for two months. According to him, this policy can curb domestic airfare increases within a range of 9 to 13 percent.
"Policies related to energy and transportation include the adjustment of aviation fuel prices," Airlangga said in a written statement on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
He also mentioned that the impact of rising avtur prices on Hajj costs will be covered by the government, ensuring no additional expenses for approximately 220,000 pilgrims. An allocation of Rp1.77 trillion will reportedly be charged to the State Budget (APBN).
The price of aviation fuel at various airports has surged due to geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East. Based on data from PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, the price of avtur increased from a range of Rp13,656.51–Rp15,737.82 per liter in March 2026 to Rp22,707.92–Rp25,632.39 per liter in April 2026.
"The price is Rp22,707.92 per liter at Hang Nadim Airport, Batam," according to the aviation fuel price document on Pertamina's official website, Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
The Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA) previously requested that the government increase the upper limit tariff and fuel surcharge by 15 percent due to the surge in global oil prices, which impacts aviation fuel.
Furthermore, the request is driven by the weakening Rupiah exchange rate since the upper limit tariff was established in 2019. The association also urged the government to provide stimulus for the sustainability of flight operations.
