3 hours ago 9

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Kingdom of Qatar is reportedly planning to give a Boeing 747-8 aircraft to U.S. President Donald Trump for temporary use. However, according to Qatar's media attach for the U.S., Ali Al-Ansari on Monday, May 13, 2025, the decision is still uncertain.

"The possible transfer of an aircraft for temporary use as Air Force One is currently under consideration between Qatar’s Ministry of Defense and the U.S. Department of Defense, but the matter remains under review by the respective legal departments, and no decision has been made," said Al-Ansari to Politico.

So, what do we know about the Boeing 747-8?

According to Livemint, the Boeing 747-8 is a massive aircraft measuring 76.3 meters in length, with a wingspan of 68.4 meters and a height of 19.4 meters.

It is priced at around US$400 million, or approximately Rp6.4 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp16,000 per U.S. dollar), depending on the specifications. This cost covers the base price and does not include maintenance or operational expenses.

The development of the Boeing 747-8 has reportedly cost over US$4 billion, reflecting Boeing’s long-term investment in multiple variants of the 747 series.

The first 747-8 Intercontinental was delivered to Deutsche Lufthansa AG in April 2012. Since then, it has been recognized as one of the largest commercial jets in operation.

The aircraft can carry up to 410 passengers and has a range of 13,650 kilometers. It is built using durable materials like aluminum alloys, carbon composites, titanium, and steel, which are designed to resist damage and corrosion.

With a maximum takeoff weight of 447,700 kilograms, the Boeing 747-8 is powered by Genx engines. It cruises at Mach 0.86 and is considered among the cleanest, quietest, and most fuel-efficient turbofan aircraft.
