TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrived at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta to meet with President Prabowo Subianto on Friday, March 27, 2026. The Prime Minister had previously touched down at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta.
Upon his arrival, the Prime Minister was personally greeted by Foreign Minister Sugiono. Anwar shared the moment of his arrival in Jakarta through his official account on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, @anwaribrahim.
"Safely landed in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, to hold a meeting with my friend, President Prabowo Subianto," Anwar wrote in the post.
Anwar stated that his meeting with Prabowo would be fully dedicated to discussing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. "And its implications for regional stability and the global economy, including its impact on Malaysia and Indonesia," he noted.
Anwar's visit to Jakarta comes at the invitation of President Prabowo, following a telephone conversation between the two leaders on March 23, 2026.
The previous communication between the two heads of state took place within the context of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri holiday. According to the Malaysian Prime Minister, he and Prabowo exchanged views on a variety of pressing current issues. "Including the Iran-Israel conflict," Anwar wrote on his Instagram account @anwaribrahim_my on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
In their discussions on regional and global affairs, both leaders emphasized the critical importance of a sustained diplomatic approach. According to Anwar, both he and Prabowo issued a call for peace regarding the war in the Middle East region.
Anwar also informed Prabowo that Malaysia remains steadfast in its support of diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the Iran-Israel conflict. "So that tensions can be reduced, the lives of civilians protected, and meaningful negotiations opened towards a lasting and peaceful resolution," Anwar stated.
