TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, attended the ASEAN Directors-General of Immigration Departments and Heads of Consular Affairs Divisions (DGICM) forum held on June 22–26, 2026, in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Since 1996, this routine agenda has brought together immigration chiefs and consular heads from across the ASEAN bloc.
Hendarsam stated that the meeting will deliberate on pressing regional challenges, including human trafficking, online scammers, border reinforcement, and the exchange of information and technology. "There are many issues we will bring, such as money laundering crimes (TPPU) and migrant smuggling crimes (TPPM)," he said at his office in South Jakarta on Monday, June 22, 2026.
This year's gathering marks the 29th DGICM convention, following last year's session hosted in Brunei Darussalam. In addition to immigration concerns, the forum serves as a platform to foster border management cooperation, streamline consular coordination, and tighten regional surveillance over cross-border human mobility.
Data from the National Police's Criminal Information Center (Pusiknas) reveals that transnational crime has experienced a year-on-year climb. In 2023, authorities logged 55,669 transnational crime cases, a figure that rose to 61,907 cases the following year, before ticking upward again to 64,263 recorded cases in 2025. Transnational offenses consistently rank as the second most prevalent type of crime, after conventional offenses.
The spectrum of these cross-border threats encompasses human trafficking, migrant smuggling, corruption, money laundering, forestry and wildlife offenses, illicit fishing, the black market trade of cultural heritage artifacts, and narcotics or precursor smuggling.
