TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reports that while rain remains on the horizon for Jakarta this Monday, April 6, 2026, the downpours will be less widespread than in recent days.
According to the agency, as cited on their official website, North Jakarta will remain under cloudy skies today. Meanwhile, Central, West, and East Jakarta, along with the Thousand Islands, face a potential for light rain throughout the day. South Jakarta stands as the outlier, with moderate-intensity rainfall predicted for the area.
On the city’s outskirts, the outlook is similarly damp but mostly mild. Most satellite regions can expect light showers, though South Tangerang is slated for heavier, moderate-intensity rain.
Even with light rain dominating the forecast, the BMKG urges residents across Greater Jakarta to remain vigilant for sudden, heavy downpours. An early warning for intense rain has been issued for the capital, joining other high-alert regions including Aceh, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Bali.
This follow-up comes after yesterday’s weather patterns saw rainfall concentrated in the southern and western reaches of Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek), while most of Jakarta stayed relatively dry. Data shows Tangerang recorded the highest local volume at 66.7 mm, firmly within the "heavy rain" category.
On a regional scale, the BMKG notes a strengthening Australian monsoon. This shift is channeling drier air masses from Australia into the Indonesian archipelago. Zonal wind analysis confirms that easterly winds now dominate much of the country, signaling a transition toward the dry season for many provinces.
However, the dry season is not quite here yet. Atmospheric dynamics, including Equatorial Rossby Waves moving westward across Sumatra and Java, continue to trigger rainfall. Local atmospheric instability is also fueling convective processes, keeping the threat of rain alive across Banten and West Java.
