TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Years after stepping away from the spotlight to complete their mandatory military service, BTS has stormed back onto the charts with explosive force as their comeback album ARIRANG debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while its lead single "SWIM" simultaneously tops the Billboard Hot 100.

Fueled by massive fan demand, ARIRANG opens with an impressive 641,000 equivalent album units, securing the largest debut of the year and setting a defining benchmark for group releases in the streaming era. As reported by Billboard, this total positions BTS just behind Taylor Swift’s 2025 juggernaut The Life of a Showgirl, while their 532,000 pure sales mark the strongest first-week tally for a group in over a decade, narrowly trailing One Direction’s Midnight Memories.

The milestone also delivers BTS their seventh No. 1 album, matched by a seventh Hot 100-topper with "SWIM", further entrenching their place among modern music’s elite, even as they continue to chase the historic highs of The Beatles, The Supremes, Bee Gees, and The Rolling Stones.

Much of the album’s formidable opening was driven by an expansive physical strategy, with 516,000 copies sold across 17 vinyl variants and nine CD editions, each accompanied by collectible merchandise. Vinyl alone accounted for 208,000 units, signaling a renewed wave of demand that continues to transform listening behaviors in today’s market.

With a nod to heritage and global ambition, BTS launched their comeback through a Netflix livestream set at Gwanghwamun, a landmark tied to Gyeongbokgung Palace. The moment aligned with the concept of ARIRANG, named after a historic Korean folk song that reflects the group’s exploration of cultural identity, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Looking ahead, BTS is set to extend their comeback momentum into a global tour across 2026 and 2027, spanning multiple continents and marking their first full-group trek in years.
