TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The evacuation process of Indonesian citizens from Iran has entered the third phase. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that in this phase, 45 individuals are being repatriated to the homeland.
The Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, explained that this evacuation is a continuation of the previous waves amid the escalating security situation following the outbreak of war between Iran and the United States since late February.
In this third phase, Indonesian citizens will depart from Tehran on Sunday, April 12, via the land route to Baku, Azerbaijan. Then, they will continue their journey to Jakarta on a commercial flight from Baku.
"They will arrive in Jakarta in three arrival groups," said Heni during a press conference by the Foreign Ministry broadcasted on YouTube on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
The first group consists of 14 individuals and arrived in Indonesia on April 14, 2026. Meanwhile, the second and third groups each consist of 9 individuals. They have arrived consecutively on April 15 and 16 at Soekarno Hatta Airport.
The remainder comprises Indonesian citizens who work as ship crews and are still in Baku, Iran. "There are still 13 crew members whom we are accommodating in Baku to await the next flight," said Heni.
Upon arrival in Indonesia, Heni stated that the evacuated Indonesian citizens from Iran will be handed over to the social service department and the provincial liaison agency for the repatriation process to their respective hometowns.
Meanwhile, at present, there are still 236 Indonesian citizens in Iran. The majority of them are students or scholars. The others are migrant workers and expatriates who are married to Iranian citizens.
