TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national football team has named 44 players in its provisional squad for the June 2026 FIFA Matchday fixtures. The announcement was made through the team’s official Instagram account on Friday, May 22, 2026.

Indonesia is scheduled to face Oman on June 5 and Mozambique on June 9 at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.

Head coach John Herdman included several key players in the provisional squad, among them Maarten Paes, Jay Idzes, Marselino Ferdinan, and Beckham Putra. The players will undergo further selection before Herdman finalizes the squad.

Herdman said the June FIFA Matchday would serve as an opportunity to strengthen Indonesia’s core squad, which largely consists of players based in Europe. He described the matches against Oman and Mozambique as important steps toward the team’s long-term ambitions.

“There is actually an opportunity for European-based players to join the ASEAN Cup, but their clubs will not allow it. FIFA rules are still FIFA rules,” Herdman said at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta.

The coach confirmed that Indonesia will field a different squad for the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup, also known as the ASEAN Cup, which begins in late July. The tournament squad will primarily feature players competing in Indonesia’s domestic league and other Southeast Asian leagues.

“We will use domestic players, and that is important to me because our main targets are the 2027 World Cup and the Asia Cup,” Herdman said.

Indonesia has been drawn into Group A of the 2026 ASEAN Cup alongside Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the winner of the playoff between Brunei Darussalam and Timor-Leste.

Indonesia will open its campaign against Cambodia on July 27 before facing the Brunei-Timor-Leste playoff winner on July 31. The Garuda squad will then take on Vietnam on August 3 and conclude the group stage against Singapore on August 7.

Herdman said preparations for the ASEAN Cup have already begun through a training camp in Jakarta from May 26 to 30. A total of 23 players were called up for the initial camp, most of whom play in Indonesia’s domestic league. Marselino Ferdinan, who plays for AS Trenín in Slovakia, is the only overseas-based player included in the camp.

Herdman described the training camp as part of an assessment and player development process ahead of the ASEAN Cup.

“These players are competing to be called up again in July. They have to perform well, regardless of whether they have previously represented Indonesia or are top league players,” he said.

According to Herdman, players’ performances in the ASEAN Cup will also influence squad selection for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

“In November, I will no longer be in the selection phase. I have to know the best 26 players for Asia Cup preparations. So these next two to three periods are very crucial,” Herdman said.
