TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Defense confirmed the deaths of two more Indonesian National Army (TNI) soldiers due to the escalation in Lebanon. The two military personnel who lost their lives on Monday, March 30th were currently undertaking peacekeeping missions for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon or UNIFIL.

“Two TNI soldiers were reported killed, while two others suffered serious injuries,” said Head of Information Bureau of the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait in his statement on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

He explained that the attack which resulted in the deaths of two TNI soldiers occurred amidst the increasing intensity of the conflict in Southern Lebanon. He stated that a number of TNI Task Force personnel were providing escort duties to support UNIFIL operational activities.

However, he mentioned that the exact cause of the incident has not been determined. “Up to now, the exact cause of the incident is still under investigation by UNIFIL in accordance with applicable mechanisms,” said Rico.

He stated that the two injured TNI soldiers have received intensive medical treatment. Both injured victims have been taken to healthcare facilities in Beirut, Lebanon.

“Evacuation and medical treatment measures were carried out quickly in accordance with United Nations operational procedures,” he said.

This one-star general emphasized that the safety of peacekeeping forces must be the top priority. The Ministry of Defense, he said, urged all parties involved in the conflict to respect international humanitarian law, including ensuring the safety of peacekeeping personnel.

“Indonesia remains committed to actively contribute to maintaining world peace and supporting regional stability through participation in UN peacekeeping missions,” he said.

Furthermore, Rico stated that the government continues to coordinate with the UNIFIL headquarters to ensure the safety of all peacekeeping personnel in conflict areas. Furthermore, the Israeli attack in the Lebanese territory at the end of March has resulted in the deaths of three TNI soldiers on duty in the UNIFIL mission.

The day before on March 29, 2026, one TNI soldier was killed and three others suffered minor to severe injuries. The soldier who was killed was Chief Soldier Farizal Rhomadhon, a member of the 113th/Jaya Sakti Infantry Battalion.

The victims were part of the Mechanized Battalion Task Force in Contingent Garuda XXIII-S in the Unifil mission. The three injured soldiers were Private Rico Pramudia, Private Bayu Prakoso, and Private Arif Kurniawan. All three have received treatment at local facilities.
