TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Board of Zakat of Indonesia (Baznas) has delivered about 15,000 packages of staple goods donated by Indonesians to residents in need in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
In a statement received by Antara in Jakarta on Monday, April 13, Baznas Secretary Subhan Cholid confirmed that the humanitarian aid had been received by Palestinians in the besieged enclave.
“Alhamdulillah, after a long process of delivery and international coordination, the aid raised by the people of Indonesia has arrived and reached the people in need in Gaza,” he said.
He noted that the philanthropic agency collaborated with foreign partners, including Egypt’s Misr El Kheir Foundation, to ensure that the humanitarian aid strictly serves people currently grappling with the crisis caused by Israel’s military actions.
“The aid constitutes a mandate from the peopple of Indonesia that we had to immediately distribute responsibly through our trusted partners,” Cholid affirmed.
Besides on-site partners, the Baznas official also extended appreciation to alms (known as zakat in Indonesia) givers and collectors, as well as other ` parties involved, for making the relief initiative possible.
Baznas, he added, remains committed to strengthening its role as the national alms management institution in continuously delivering charitable donations from Indonesians to the people reeling from hardships in Palestine.
On that note, Cholid called on Indonesians to continue contributing to easing Palestinians’ burdens by entrusting their donations with Baznas.
“We can assure you of targeted distribution of aid to those truly in need,” he told the public.
Through Baznas, the Indonesian government and public have sent an array of humanitarian aid to Palestine countless times over the years, especially since Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza.
This year alone, the agency has distributed at least 100,000 liters of clean water, 74,228 portions of iftar meals during Ramadan, erected seven emergency classrooms, and an ambulance, among other forms of aid.
