TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The coach of the Mozambique national team, Chiquinho Conde, anticipates a challenging match against Indonesia on the upcoming FIFA Matchday at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The Mozambique coach cited both of the respective teams' results during the previous game.
Indonesia displayed a convincing performance by defeating Oman 3-0 last Friday, while Mozambique had to endure a 1-4 loss against the same opponent. "Indonesia is a strong team because they won 3-0, whereas we lost 4-1 against Oman," stated Chiquinho during the press conference ahead of the match in Jakarta on Monday, June 8, 2026.
The face-off will be the second encounter for both teams in this month's FIFA Match Day agenda. The Garuda team comes with high confidence following a shutout against Oman, while Mozambique is looking to recover from an otherwise unsatisfactory performance at the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in Bekasi last Sunday.
Chiquinho revealed that his team had not been able to witness Indonesia's match against Oman firsthand as they were en route to Jakarta, but their team had gathered recordings of the match for further study.
"Today, we will have a better opportunity to analyze the video and take the necessary steps," said the 59-year-old coach.
Despite suffering a significant defeat, Chiquinho emphasized that his team is not intending to dwell on that result. He urged the players to swiftly pivot into focusing on their upcoming match against Indonesia. "No matter what the result was in yesterday's match," he said.
According to him, Mozambique's preparations have been proceeding as planned. He's hopeful for the Os Mambas to deliver an improved performance against Indonesia and emerge victorious.
On the other hand, the match against Mozambique presents an opportunity for Indonesia to continue their positive trend under coach John Herdman and improve their position in the FIFA rankings.
