TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has called on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to investigate an attack on a UNIFIL base in South Lebanon. The assault on the military base, where Indonesian personnel serve as part of the peacekeeping forces, resulted in the death of an Indonesian soldier, Private First Class (Praka) Farizal Rhomadhon.

Sugiono stated that UNIFIL has expressed its commitment to investigating the tragedy. "The origin of the attack is not yet clear; we await the results of the UNIFIL investigation," Sugiono said in a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, March 30, 2026.

In addition to pushing for a formal inquiry, Sugiono urged all conflicting parties to exercise restraint. "Once again, I urge all parties to de-escalate," he remarked.

The Gerindra Party Secretary General also used the statement to condemn Israeli actions. "We strongly condemn this incident and also strongly condemn the attacks carried out by Israel in the southern region of Lebanon," he said.

The incident that claimed Farizal's life occurred in South Lebanon, near Adchit Al Qusayr, on Sunday, March 29, 2026. At the time, active hostilities were taking place between the Israeli military and the armed group Hezbollah.

The attack specifically targeted the position of the Indonesian peacekeeping contingent near Adchit Al Qusayr. In addition to the death of one soldier, three others sustained injuries. They have been identified as Private Rico Pramudia, who suffered severe injuries, and Privates Bayu Prakoso and Arif Kurniawan, who sustained minor injuries.

The two soldiers with minor injuries have received treatment at a UNIFIL Level I hospital. Meanwhile, the critically injured soldier was evacuated by helicopter to St. George's Hospital in Beirut for further medical care. Farizal’s body is currently being laid to rest at the UNIFIL East Sector Headquarters (HQ) pending repatriation to Indonesia.

According to Sugiono, the source of the fire that killed Farizal and wounded his comrades remains undetermined. At the time of the strike, an exchange was underway between the Israeli military and the armed group.

Sugiono also expressed his condolences following Farizal's passing. "We request a full investigation by UNIFIL to find the source of this incident," Sugiono emphasized.

Separately, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also condemned the incident. In a statement issued the same day, Guterres noted that an Indonesian peacekeeper was killed amid the ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.
