TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia opened its 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship campaign with a dominant 7-0 victory over Brunei Darussalam in their Group B opener at Nonthaburi Hall, Thailand, on Monday, April 6.
Muhammad Sanjaya starred for the defending champions with a hat trick, scoring in the third, fourth, and 20th minutes. Andarias Kareth added a brace, while Imam Anshori and Dewa Rizki each scored once as Indonesia overwhelmed Brunei from the outset. The 7-0 result and Sanjaya’s hat trick were widely reported by Indonesian outlets on Monday.
The emphatic win lifted Indonesia, coached by Hector Souto, to the top of the temporary Group B standings with three points, while Brunei remained bottom of the table.
Indonesia will next face Malaysia on Tuesday, April 7, while Brunei is scheduled to take on Australia later the same day, according to match reports.
Fast Start Sets the Tone
Indonesia seized control from the opening whistle and struck early through Sanjaya, who converted Yogi Saputra’s pass in the third minute.
Moments later, Sanjaya doubled the lead after another quick combination with Yogi, putting Brunei under immediate pressure.
Indonesia’s momentum continued despite an injury scare involving goalkeeper Muhammad Albagir. Brunei struggled to escape sustained pressure as Andarias Kareth made it 3-0 in the 10th minute.
Two minutes later, Imam Anshori added the fourth after meeting another assist from Yogi Saputra, before Dewa Rizki extended the lead to 5-0 in the 16th minute.
Sanjaya completed his hat trick in the 20th minute to cap a commanding first half, sending Indonesia into the break with a 6-0 advantage.
Indonesia Maintains Control
Brunei showed more attacking intent after halftime and managed to create a few chances, but failed to break through against the Indonesian defense.
Indonesia remained in control and added their seventh goal in the 23rd minute, when Andarias Kareth finished from a pass by Guntur Sulistyo.
Both sides continued to press and experimented with power-play situations in the closing stages, but no further goals were scored as Indonesia sealed a comfortable 7-0 win.
