TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is restricting Pertalite and solar fuel purchases starting April 1, 2026, which targets four-wheel vehicles.

The provision is outlined in the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) Decision No. 024/KOM/BPH.DBBM/2026, adopted on March 30, 2026.

Committee Member of BPH Migas, Fathul Nugroho, did not deny the decision but has yet to provide a detailed explanation.

"Please await the official statement from the government, which is planned for this afternoon or tomorrow," said Fathul in a written message on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Laode Sulaeman, and the Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Roberth MV Dumatubun, have not responded to the inquiries about the fuel restriction policy.

The BPH Migas decision assigns the state oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) to control the public distribution of subsidized fuel, including by setting a daily limit for fuel purchases per vehicle.

For Pertalite, four-wheel vehicles, whether private or public transportation, are only allowed to purchase a maximum of 50 liters per day. This policy extends to public service vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks.

On the other hand, solar purchase restriction is differentiated based on the type of vehicle. Four-wheel vehicles are limited to 50 liters per day, while public four-wheel transportation is allowed up to 80 liters per day.

For vehicles with six or more wheels, the maximum limit of solar purchase reaches 200 liters per day.

Furthermore, public service vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks are also subject to a maximum of 50 liters per day for solar.

The decision also states that fuel purchases exceeding the quota will be charged at the non-subsidized rate or counted as general fuel (JBU).
