TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2026 AFF Futsal Championship will take place in Thailand from April 6–12, 2026. The Indonesian national futsal team is in Group B alongside Australia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam, after Cambodia withdrew from the tournament.
The Garuda squad is scheduled to play three consecutive group stage matches from April 6–8, 2026. Indonesia will open against Brunei Darussalam on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), then face Malaysia on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), and close the group stage against Australia on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
If Indonesia finishes in the top two of their group, they will advance to the semifinals, which will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The third-place match and final will take place on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
The head coach of the Indonesian national futsal team, Héctor Souto, emphasized that the team's realistic target is to reach the semifinals. He also emphasized the importance of a gradual approach, utilizing a squad dominated by young players from domestic competitions. "We want to be competitive and develop the national team so that we have more players ready whenever needed. We will take this tournament match by match, with the goal of reaching the semifinals," said Souto, as quoted by Antara.
For the Indonesian Futsal Federation, this tournament is also part of a long-term investment to strengthen the national team's foundation. Providing international experience to players from the Professional Futsal League (PFL) is considered crucial for preparing squad depth for the future. The Indonesian national futsal team also hopes for full support from the public so that the players can achieve maximum results in Thailand.
