TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Mohammad Boroujerdi revealed his country's plan to explore cooperation in several fields with Solo City, Central Java. Boroujerdi expressed this after the meeting with the Mayor of Solo, Respati Ardi, at the Solo City Hall, Central Java, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Boroujerdi expressed his appreciation for the meeting with the Mayor of Solo today. He mentioned that Iran discussed a variety of issues during the meeting, including solidarity, economic cooperation, and trade opportunities between the two parties. According to him, the cooperation between Iran and Solo City will be mutually beneficial.

"The Mayor of Solo City conveyed the solidarity of the Solo community towards Iran and condemned the attacks on Iran. This support is very meaningful for us, as we are facing a war imposed by the Zionist regime of Israel and the United States," said Boroujerdi, accompanied by his interpreter, Ali, after the meeting at the Solo City Hall.

Boroujerdi also revealed that the discussions with the Solo City Government included the possibility of cooperation in the economic and trade fields. He stated that both parties are exploring opportunities to build a more concrete partnership, including the possibility of signing further agreements.

"Certainly, Solo is a city filled with history, a city that is important in terms of historical background, cultural civilization, and the economy that runs in this city," he added.

He further mentioned that one of the options discussed is the establishment of a Sister City partnership between Surakarta or Solo and a city in Iran that shares similar characteristics. He will form a team to conduct a study on this matter.

"We will form a team from the Iranian Embassy to conduct a study to determine a city that shares similarities in terms of history, culture, and economy before proposing it to the Mayor," he explained.

Boroujerdi also mentioned that the process is expected to be realized in the near future. After the exploration is completed, they will propose a suitable city.

"Insha Allah, after this exploration process is completed, we will propose a suitable city," he said.

Respati Ardi welcomed the plan for cooperation and ensured that steps would be taken to realize it.

"Of course, the most important economic potential is the impact. In the future, we will measure its impact and benefits, because a mission that brings economic goodwill will certainly be implemented," said Respati.

He also expressed concern about the situation in Iran. He hoped that the conflict currently affecting Iran could be resolved soon. If the situation becomes conducive, he mentioned that the Solo City Government, along with several organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Gekrafs, the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), and the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI), will immediately push for the discussed cooperation.

"He is committed that after it's resolved (the conflict), he will carry out tourism and economic missions in Indonesia, especially in Surakarta," he said.

On the other hand, Respati mentioned that they are also ready to provide support to affected parties. This solidarity aligns with the constitutional mandate to firmly oppose all forms of colonization.

"We pray that this will be resolved soon. We pray that the message of friendship and peace will be resolved soon and bring good impacts for both parties, especially the city of Surakarta. And of course, the issue of humanity and the form of humanity's solidarity, we, the Indonesian people, are ready to help," he said.
