TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Drone and missile attacks linked to Iran struck energy infrastructure and civilian facilities across the Gulf on Sunday, April 5, 2026, with damage reported in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, and Bahrain.
The latest incidents are part of Tehran’s retaliation against the United States and Israel, according to regional media reports. Recent reporting from Arab News, Bloomberg, and regional outlets also described fresh strikes and damage to energy facilities across the Gulf over the weekend.
The Gulf states have come under repeated attack in recent weeks, with strikes increasingly targeting not only military sites but also critical energy and industrial infrastructure.
Fire at UAE Energy Facility
In the UAE, a fire broke out at the Borouge petrochemical plant in Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi, after debris from an air defense interception fell in the area.
“Authorities are responding to multiple fires in Borouge petrochemicals plant, caused by falling debris following successful interceptions by air defense systems,” the Abu Dhabi media office said.
“Operations at the facility have been immediately suspended while damage is assessed. No injuries have been reported.”
Authorities also responded to a separate incident at Khor Fakkan Port in the Gulf of Oman, where the captain of a container ship reportedly observed splashes from an unidentified projectile near the vessel, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
Meanwhile, ADNOC Gas said the Habshan complex sustained damage from debris linked to an earlier intercepted attack. The company said several facilities were damaged and one Egyptian national was killed.
Heavy Damage Reported in Kuwait
Kuwait appeared to be among the hardest-hit countries in the latest wave of attacks. Iranian drones reportedly damaged two power plants and water desalination facilities, while also sparking fires at oil-related sites.
A spokesperson for Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy described the strikes as criminal acts that caused serious material damage and forced the shutdown of two power-generation units.
According to reports cited by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and local media, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) also reported significant material losses after several facilities were struck. Fires were later contained, and no casualties were reported.
Separate strikes also hit the Shuwaikh oil sector complex and nearby government office buildings, causing major damage. Regional reports similarly said Kuwait’s oil, power, and desalination facilities were among the sites hit.
Storage Tank Fire in Bahrain
In Bahrain, state-owned Bapco Energies confirmed that a storage tank caught fire following what it described as a hostile Iranian drone attack.
“Bapco Energies confirms an incident occurred at one of its storage facilities earlier today resulting in a tank fire, as a result of a hostile Iranian drone attack,” the company said in a statement.
“The fire has been fully extinguished, and the situation is under control. Damages are currently being assessed and evaluated. No injuries have been reported,” it added. The incident was also reported by AFP and regional media.
Another attack also reportedly struck a unit operated by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co, triggering a fire that was later brought under control.
