TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) spokesperson Kandice Ardiel reported on Saturday that Israeli soldiers had destroyed all surveillance cameras facing the UN peacekeeping force headquarters in Naqoura, southern Lebanon.
According to Ardiel, the Israeli army has destroyed all cameras that ensured the safety and security of military and civilian personnel at the UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura since Friday, cited Antara.
UNIFIL has expressed serious concern over Israel's actions and has decided to lodge an official protest. Ardiel reminded the Israeli soldiers of their obligation to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and facilities.
In a separate statement, he confirmed that three Indonesian UN peacekeepers were injured, two of them seriously, in an explosion on Friday at a UN facility near El Adeisse in southern Lebanon.
UNIFIL has operated in southern Lebanon since 1978. Its mandate was expanded under Security Council Resolution 1701 following the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah.
Since a cross-border attack by Hezbollah on March 2, Israel has been carrying out airstrikes and ground operations in southern Lebanon, despite a ceasefire that has been in place since November 2024.
According to Lebanese authorities, at least 1,422 people were killed, and 4,294 others were injured in Israeli attacks.
