Jakarta Records 1,776 Newcomers Following Eid al-Fitr

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency (Dukcapil) has begun registering new arrivals following the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday. As of April 1, 1,776 people have entered the capital, with registration underway across all administrative areas as part of annual post-holiday urbanization monitoring.

Denny Wahyu Haryanto, head of Dukcapil Jakarta, stated that while the government does not restrict the influx of residents, it must ensure all mobility is administratively recorded. "The focus is to ensure that every movement of the population is documented," Denny said in a written statement on Wednesday, April 2, 2026.

Dukcapil data revealed that of the 1,776 newcomers, 891 are male and 885 are female. Approximately 79.34 percent fall within the 15-64 age bracket, reflecting a migration flow dominated by the labor force.

The registration is managed through a digital system updated daily. Local authorities are coordinating with regional officials down to the neighborhood (RT) and community unit (RW) levels to track the arrival and distribution of new residents. This system allows for the rapid profiling of newcomers to inform public service planning.

According to Denny, every newcomer is required to report to their neighborhood administrator within 24 hours of arriving in Jakarta. This obligation is in accordance with the Regional Secretary Circular Letter Number SE/14/2026 regarding the maintenance of security and order during the Eid al-Fitr period.

Furthermore, Dukcapil is providing outreach services throughout April to expedite the registration process. Both permanent and temporary residents are required to be registered under the Population Administration Law Number 23 of 2006, as updated by Law Number 24 of 2013.

The government, Denny noted, urges newcomers to secure employment and housing plans before moving to Jakarta. Without careful preparation, the urbanization flow has the potential to strain city services and give rise to new social issues in urban areas.
