TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta's Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has urged residents to stay alert for extreme weather expected from April 6 to 9, warning of possible local flooding, waterlogging, and falling trees caused by strong winds.
“The potential impacts include standing water, localized flooding, and fallen trees due to strong winds,” Mohamad Yohan, head of the Data and Disaster Information Center at BPBD Jakarta, said in Jakarta on Monday.
According to Yohan, weather analysis from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) shows that Jakarta is currently in a seasonal transition period ahead of the dry season.
He said the start of the 2026 dry season is forecast to occur between mid-May and early June, meaning the current inter-monsoon transition period, known locally as pancaroba, still carries a high risk of extreme weather.
Yohan said moderate to very heavy rainfall is possible between April 5 and 9, with the highest risk expected on April 6 to 8.
“Rain is likely to occur from the afternoon into the evening in localized areas, with intensity that can increase rapidly,” he said.
BPBD Jakarta has therefore urged residents, particularly those living in disaster-prone areas, to remain vigilant against potential impacts such as flooding, fallen trees, and other weather-related hazards.
The agency said it will continue to closely monitor BMKG weather forecasts and distribute updates through its official social media channels.
“We also urge the public to stay alert for heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning, and to avoid activities in vulnerable areas during extreme weather,” Yohan said.
BPBD also reminded residents to remain cautious of possible waterlogging and flooding. In emergencies, the public can call 112, a free 24-hour emergency service.
