TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesia's Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) recorded eight eruptions accompanied by incandescent lava ejections from Mount Anak Krakatau in South Lampung, Lampung, with its activity status remaining at Level III (Alert/Siaga).

Muhammad Dika Nurzaman, an officer at the PVMBG (Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation) observation post for Mount Anak Krakatau, stated in an official report in Jakarta on Monday that this volcanic activity was recorded during the observation period on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 00:00 to 24:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time).

"Eight eruptions were observed, reaching heights of 200 to 300 meters above the crater peak, with smoke appearing gray and black. In addition to the eruptions, ejections of incandescent lava were also observed," he said.

He explained that visual observations showed Mount Anak Krakatau's visibility ranging from clear to obscured by fog.

Crater smoke was observed in white, gray, and black hues, with intensities ranging from thin to moderate and thick, rising 10 to 300 meters above the peak.

Regarding seismicity, PVMBG instruments recorded eight eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 43–60 mm and durations of 34–59 seconds, 46 emission earthquakes, 10 harmonic tremors, and 11 hybrid/multi-phase earthquakes.

Continuous tremor activity, or microtremor, was also reported, with a dominant amplitude of 20 mm.

In response to Mount Anak Krakatau's activity level remaining at "Alert" (Siaga), the PVMBG has issued strict recommendations for the public and tourists.

The PVMBG urges the public, visitors, tourists, and hikers not to approach Mount Anak Krakatau or engage in any activities within a three-kilometer safe radius of the active crater, in order to guard against the danger of ejected volcanic material.
